Dear Parents,
Congratulations to the Do Right students of the week....Gavin Bartlett, Alvaro Gonzalez, Will Holmes, Ronan Jeannotte, Isabella Kennedy, Harry Lenicheck, Marcy Lomen, Luke Pfleegor, Cole Ranucci, Sylvia Smith, and Isabella Wellington.

This morning, Charlie Stearns, 6th grade, led an incredible presentation for his whole grade about his exciting trip to Australia.  During the discussion, Charlie shared interesting facts about the culture, showed cool pictures, and answered countless questions about the exotic animals in Australia.  Charlie skillfully described his encounters with salt-water crocodiles, bird-sized spiders, and wild kangaroos.  The entire sixth grade enjoyed Charlie's presentation.

In approximately a month we will begin our standardized testing.

The following is the schedule for the testing, which will include PARCC for all students. Students in fifth grade will also participate in MCAS. We are sending the schedule out well in advance, so families can plan accordingly and help us to achieve excellent attendance for testing. This year there is only one testing window, which is a change from the two testing windows in past years.

Additional Information:  While the two-week testing window includes a number of testing days, the total number of tests has actually decreased from last year.  The daily testing minutes vary by grade and subject, and range from 60-110 minutes.  Last year, we found that the allotted minutes is far greater than the students required to successfully finish.

While direct instruction continues during the testing window, there is no homework assigned or outside work expectations.  We often utilize extra recess, and other incentives to reward students for their hard work.  We want students to be well-rested and relaxed so they can do their best.  We realize that this amount of testing can cause stress, which is why we work very hard to alleviate anxiety and be supportive of the students.
