During the summer, I made a decision that in my 14th year working at Fowler I would explore other schools and districts if I felt they would be a good match for me. Over the last few weeks, I was honored to be named a finalist in Sudbury and in Brookline. Last Friday, I was offered the position of Principal of the Curtis Middle School in Sudbury. After a weekend of reflection, I decided to accept Sudbury's offer.
Sudbury offers me a wonderful opportunity to move into a larger school and district, to work with and learn from new staff and central office administrators, and to grow professionally from different experiences and challenges.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked for so long at Fowler, which is a school that takes great pride in our strong culture and commitment to supporting students and families. I have loved every minute of working at Fowler and have found the work to be rewarding, satisfying, and reinforcing the important role that educators play in children's lives.
Fowler is a high-functioning school, with a healthy focus on growth and improvement and supporting the needs of the whole-child. The Fowler staff is fabulous and their ability to collaborate, trust each other, and work toward a common goal of educating every student provides a strong foundation for the school to continue to grow and improve.
I want to thank the students, staff, and families for helping to make my years at Fowler so special. I have always felt welcomed and appreciated by the school community, and I deeply respect the families in Maynard who support the schools, rally around good causes, and care immensely about helping others.
I look forward to an exciting and busy spring where we can continue the important work of educating and caring for our students.
Last night, Fowler hosted our first Fine Arts Night, which showcased wonderful examples of music, art, and poetry in the school. Congratulations to Mrs. Hayward, Mr. Perham, and Mr. Kozik for directing and organizing an excellent event and to all the students who performed so well. The theme of the evening was based on the artist Wassily Kandinsky and his contribution to the art world known as Synesthesia. Art work, poetry, and live music, were all modeled on this principle and students were able to experience this phenomena using their own creative interpretations.
